Christian Creeds & Confessions: Presbyterian & Reformed Edition
This book is a collection of reformed Christian creeds and confessions in a readable format for devotional, personal, and academic use.
It is designed primarily for readability and reference, and for this reason the footnotes with scripture proofs have not been included unless they are a part of the actual text. Each creed or confession begins with a short introduction describing the origin and development of the document and a short summary, noting any significant features. The introduction section then ends with a few recommended reading resources that will help you delve deeper into the history and/or theology of that particular creed or confession.
I have included these confessions and creeds in order to emphasize the doctrines which the churches that rose out of the reformation share in common. The catholicity of the church was important to the reformers but, unfortunately, in our era this emphasis on catholicity has been forgotten and given way to increasing division and sectarianism. My hope is that this collection will encourage and edify Christian believers in their faith and unity with one another.
This volume contains: The Apostles’ Creed, The Nicene Creed, The Chalcedonian Creed, The Athanasian Creed, The Thirty-Nine Articles, The Second Helvetic Confession The Belgic Confession, The Heidelberg Catechism, The Canons of Dort, The Westminster Confession of Faith, The Larger Catechism, The Shorter Catechism.
Also included are notes and information about the American revisions of the Thirty-Nine Articles, Three Forms of Unity and The Westminster Standards.
